50 Lexington was built in 1987 and was originally a rental building. After several years it was converted to a cooperative (co-op) and is now owned by Lex Tenants Corp. whose shareholders are the owners of the apartments and common space of the building.

On the building's side along Lexington Avenue there are several stores. In the basement, besides the gym, pool, saune, and laundry room, are also several office suites which are currently rented to several professional businesses.

In front of the building is a small, well kept, public plaza.
